Prolouge, Intro., Ch. 1

What I learned the most and this reading was the understanding of the Paeleolithic Era. Strays as we learned from class seems to yearn for those days.  He seems to have more in common with the ways that they lived as far as both men and women having equal rights and responsibilities.  When it comes to responsibilities Strays refers to them as gatherers-hunters instead of hunter gatherers, which is what modern people are use to hearing.  it puts more emphasis on the women of those times and establishes the fact that the gathering was more important than hunting.  I also enjoyed the comparison between the San and Chumash tribe. The "insulting of the meat," was a great way for them to keep people humble and prevent them from being boastful.  On the opposing side the Chumash had a  heirarchal system. Due to them having some form of money and also the ability to have canoes.
